My Special Mother’s Day

At 6 am with the dawn filtering through my bedroom window, I remembered something special was about to happen. It was the Lord’s Day, my favorite time of the week, but there was something else that made me anticipate the hours ahead. This was my very first Mother’s Day spent with my daughter Missy as a new mom and my brand new little granddaughter and I could hardly wait for it to begin!

Over coffee, crumpets & marmalade Wes, all smiles, brought forth each gift. The sweetness of sharing this honored time with them tugged at my heart. My gift sacks held a beautiful china mug, a little cream pitcher that Missy knew I wanted & a gift card at the local spa for a pamper & pedicure with my daughter. The best gift of course was to see the pride in Wes’ eyes as he presented his gifts to Missy. Prayers that began at my daughter's birth for just such a man were once again being answered.

The promised Mother’s Day luncheon was next on the agenda. Aussies seem to love to go out to eat as much as Texans but a reservation at the Docklands was out of our reach for this day so we settled instead on lunch at Chi Wa Wa’s in Camberwell. The restaurant name of course brought a smile to us but in no way took away from the fantastic food.

The mums were greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne and after a toast to celebrate our happy time together we set about the business of ordering our meal.

Missy and Wes had Chicken Parmigiana & I had fried fish with a delicate batter, potatoes & a lovely salad.

The meal was complete with my very favorite dessert, Sticky Date Pudding. The name pudding in Australia and the UK compared with America does not produce the same delicacy. Their pudding is a soft, warm, moist cake, topped with caramel sauce & cream. Divine does not adequately describe this amazing dessert.

Afterward we had a bit of a walk around the streets and market place of Camberwell. I loved it and quickly added it to my growing list of favorite places to visit in Melbourne. I enjoyed the drive home and drank in all the sights of the lovely city.

Our evening with new baby Kate was relaxed. We had a Ploughman’s Platter for dinner. ( nibbly foods of cheeses, meats & breads ) Wes had a movie for us to watch but Missy & I found ourselves nodding off and soon padded off to bed, satisfied with the good exhaustion of having been blessed by the LORD with a beautiful Mother's Day.

Where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there in the midst of them. Matthew 18:20
