Icing on the Cake...the year in review

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

December was hectic as usual and we added a bit of drama with a broken tibia and ankle for Larry.   He fell about 6 feet from a ladder while he was working at one of our rent houses.   We spent the day before Christmas Eve in the Veterans Hospital ER and about three more times since then seeing various doctors and having scans and x - rays to determine if surgery is needed.   The jury is still out and we hope to have a firm decision about that this coming Thursday.   The one thing I have discovered is that the VA doesn't get in a hurry about anything.  I assume that is bureaucracy.    An appointment seems to take all day.   We also discovered  they are a part of UT Southwestern.    We were pleased to find that out and once we requested other opinions they were good about having UT Southwestern orthopedic trauma doctors conference about it.  It has made for an interesting holiday season...all done in the snow and ice .....but it did not dampen our excitement and enthusiasm for this special time of year celebrating the birth of our Lord.

Below is a collection of our Photo Documented
2012 Year

 Christmas Day

The Grand Girls check out Big Daddy's foot

Other than our last few days of holiday drama there aren’t many new changes with us.   If the last few years taught me anything...it is that no news is not such a bad thing… Our children are doing well and to our dismay the grand children refuse to stop growing.   They delight us with their many talents and outpouring of love.  Our three oldest Grands are in college and the two in the middle are in high and middle school…the three youngest in elementary, preschool and mother’s day out.   We have various programs we attend for sports, choir, plays, dance recitals and church.    Our calendar stays full of those most important events.   Our children are successful, healthy and wise..

In July Brenda, her new husband Taylor and family came to visit for Father's Day.

In October we said goodbye to our dear Uncle Odell who went to be with the Lord and his precious Ann.   Missy and family joined us and there was a beautiful military tribute to him plus we enjoyed seeing Memphis, family and friends.

The first part of October we also had a visit from Chuck, Carol and Jay.  We had a great time catching up and as always Chuck sang the songs we love.  We especially love hearing him sing them.    We had a great time…pretending we could party like we used to…  ;)   We were sad to see them go.

sitting in the living room listening to Chuck play... a scene
repeated through the years.  Chuck sang at our wedding and always promised our daughter Missy he would sing at hers...and he did.. during the ceremony and at the reception on her first dance with husband Wes.   He also came to sing at my surprise 50th birthday... and wowed everyone...     We are big fans of Chuck's music.   He now performs professionally with his son Chris and sometimes Carol and Craig join in too.  The Gordons are a very talented family.   :)

 enjoying Chuck's music

 Sassy listens too

Carol has such a sense of humor...and heart of gold.
We were blessed she could come...

Jay is our teddy bear...the sweetest friend.  Sure
missed Linda and Christie.

Pork Tacos and the fixins....

The week after they left we said another goodbye to our dear Uncle Vern, who is my dad’s brother.   It was a time of celebration of a life well lived.   His children and grandchildren had a beautiful service and afterward a great time together as family at my cousin’s home.
Wonderful  Uncle Vern...My childhood memories
are full of him.  He and Aunt Jo were so much fun
to visit.  He was amazing with children.  We will miss you Uncle Vern.
You were the real deal.

Larry and I went to the State Fair in October as well.  We like to go Senior Citizen day... Besides getting in free....we like that it is not too crowded.. We like to walk around and have our annual Fletcher's Corny Dog, Nutty Buddy and funnel cake.   We never get tired of them.  We took our traditional photo op by Big Tex...and thank goodness we did because by the next morning at 9 am Big Tex was on fire!   What a shock it was!  I know they will rebuild him but I have been getting pics by Big Tex since I was a very small girl...   Good Bye Big Tex....we look forward to your return!

In November we helped my folks downsize to a lovely home and the transition has gone well.  We enjoy visits with them sharing memories and talking sports and politics as our generations will do.   They attend our family events, teaching our young ones how to gracefully age and giving them important life lessons as matriarch and patriarch of the family.   My sister comes to our house when she can for a sleep over and the three of us talk our heads of catching up on our busy lives and families.

 Grand Girls

That was somewhat of a recap of the year... I tried to be fair and
make sure everyone got their pic or important occasion in...but
seems I always miss something...   It was a fantastic year!
There were certainly challenges, as in any year, but  most of all we are aware of how God holds us in the palm of His Hand…and for that we are grateful.
Wishing you a year of New Year’s Blessings!
