April started off with a bang... It has already warmed up here in Texas with small bouts of cool-ish sweater weather..and for the most part...we are on a warming trend. Texans do not look forward to summer.. Heat is signature here..and a warmish spring means a hot as heck summer. I have already made a mental note to pack away the winter items and re- org spring and summer clothes. I bought a few pots, seeds and potting soil...and that is another sure sign summer is happening at our house.
I spent a few days in the yard and had it looking pretty good until a Texas storm blew in the other night....and dropped about an inch of golf ball size hail and with 80 mph wind gusts nearly tore all the green leaves off my trees into the ...once clean yard. We have some kind of critter that lives under our back deck. Our little miniature poodle Sassy works herself into an excited frenzy at night until I open her doggy door so she can crash through it and bound across the yard like a deer. She does it in about three leaps to catch her unsuspecting prey. ( They do this every night ) She sounds ferocious and when she is finished with her tirade struts back into the house...head held high...at her noble attempts to protect the homefront.
The first Saturday in the month we drove to East Texas to celebrate my Uncle Vern's 9oth birthday. They held it at the old train depot and it was well attended by friends and family. My Uncle Vern has probably been out of East Texas...and more specifically his rural home near Winnsboro, only a handful of times in his whole life... and yet that train depot was filled with people who all came together to celebrate his life. We attended Granddaugther Katelyn's Cheer Banquet... She was honored as a graduating senior and was given an award for Best Stunt Group and Best Attitude. Yay Katelyn! There was a wonderful Video show of them cheering through high school...and lots of photo opportunities with friends.. We are very proud of Katelyn and her accomplishments and so proud of her as she finishes up her senior year at Bishop Lynch and prepares for college at Stephen F. Austin.
The week after that we attended our Granddaughter Ashton's confirmation and reception afterward. Her Aunt Luisa was her sponsor. It was very special for all of us... Ashton was so excited about being able to go to Lifeteen...which is a strong Christian peer group. She went on her first retreat this weekend with them and I can't wait to hear all the wonderful things that happened. Way to go Ashton!

It was Pierson's last retreat with Lifeteen ...and though he is happy and excited to move on to the next phase of his life in college...he will miss all the wonderful friends he made in Lifeteen and the strong Christian guidance they have given him. Pierson will attend a local community college and then plans to transfer to The University of Dallas. We are very proud of Pierson who has lettered in Varsity Tennis and has been a leader in his school Spirit Team and in Leadership at Church. We are proud of you Pierson!

Grandson Justin went to state with Destination Imagination again this year. His group competed in Lubbock, Texas and placed 3rd. We are very proud of Justin's hard work in DI. He graduates from elementary school this year and will be attending middle school at St. Monica's in Dallas. Good Luck next year Justin at your new school!
Our youngest Grandson Johnathan graduates from Kindergarten and will attend first grade next year at St. Joesph's in Plano. We are very excited for him...and know he will have a great year next year. Johnathan is very bright and we look forward to all the accomplishments ahead of him. Congratulations Johnathan on First Grade!
Today we celebrated the first birthday of my granddaughter Christina. Her Mommy, Daddy and brother have worked hard to make it a very special birthday. Her Daddy cut short a meeting and flew in from Atlanta so he wouldn't miss his baby girl's special occasion. Her Mommy shopped and carefully pulled together a pretty little pink gingham birthday theme. Mommy and Johnathan made part of the cupcake decorations....and everything was so pretty and special for our Birthday Girl. Family and Friends gathered to celebrate the life of our sweet baby girl.
( See photo page for more pictures of Christina's special party.)
Next week is Holy Week. Our grandkids Pierson and Ashton will be in a Live Stations of the Cross at their church..and I can hardly wait to attend that! We will have a passover meal to attend on Thursday for Maundy Thursday...and Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday when James, Lara and Katelyn will be confirmed.. Easter Sunday will be at our house and we will have spiral cut ham..and other lunch items...and an egg hunt in the yard for the kids...Us big kids enjoy the egg hunt too. :)
We pray you have a Blessed Holy Week...and Easter..
Elaine and Larry
